Lecture

During this week’s lecture, Mr. Fauzi taught us how to use Photoshop to select and crop images. To isolate the part of the image we want, we can use the Pen Tool for complex shapes with multiple colors, or the Magic Wand Tool for selecting areas with flat, solid colors. Once selected, the image can be copied and pasted onto our canvas.

Photoshop Tool Overview: Selection & Pen Tools
Photoshop's Toolbox includes a wide range of tools, many of which are and expandable for more options.

Selection Tools: Lasso Tool
The Lasso Tool is great for making freehand selections of specific areas in an image. It's especially useful when used with a graphics tablet, as it mimics drawing with a pencil, offering precise control.

Pen Tool & Path Creation
The Pen Tool lets designers draw custom paths and curves by placing anchor points. The shape of the path depends on how the points are placed and dragged, fewer points often result in smoother curves.

Examples of paths:
  • Straight Lines
  • U-Shapes Curves
  • S Curves (simple and complex)
The Pen Tool is extremely versatile and widely used for creating clean, editable shapes and selections.

Practicing with The Bezier Game
Mr. Fauzi introduced us to The Bezier Game, a fun way to practice using the pen tool. While the game has slight differences from Adobe's version, it was helpful and fun experience.
